Brittany Carmichael is a lens-based artist specializing in portrait and documentary photography.

She received her MFA from the School of Visual Arts and is now based in Toronto, Canada. Brittany's work is narrative driven and examines the relationship between the place one comes from and how it shapes who we become. Taking a documentary approach, her work presents themes concerning identity and spectatorship. Brittany's photographs consider the importance of representation with a vulnerable intimacy that draws you into the subject's world, transforming a stranger into someone familiar.

Brittany has exhibited throughout Canada and the United States, notably in New York City, Philadelphia, Toronto and Montréal, and has been commissioned to photograph portraits and stories for magazines including VICE, New York Magazine's The Cut, Toronto Life and Reader's Digest.
